A 16-year-old boy has been charged after allegedly knocking out an off-duty police officer in the Perth CBD.

It's alleged the teenager approached the 36-year-old man at Perth Train Station around 11.15pm on Saturday and an altercation took place.

Transit officers helped the victim and the altercation ended.

A short time later, the 16-year-old boy allegedly approached the off-duty police officer outside of a fast-food outlet on William Street.

He allegedly kicked the victim in the head, knocking him unconscious.

The officer suffered a fractured eye socket and nose.

He was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment.

The boy was later arrested at a home in Kingsley and was charged with grievous bodily harm.

He will appear before the Perth Children’s Court today.
