Works are underway for a purpose-built bike track in Calista, just north of the Edge Skatepark.

The track will be constructed by LD Total at Calista Oval around existing trees, using a grant from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries along with funding from the RAC and the City of Kwinana.

Mayor Carol Adams said the track will be designed with the purpose of educating toddlers and preschoolers on correct road rules and safe cycling behaviours, and the track will be fenced along Gilmore Avenue.

“The track will be a great way for kids to learn the road rules in a safe and fun environment,” Mayor Adams said.

“The bike skills track will include a set of mini traffic lights, traffic signs to simulate a road environment, pedestrian and kangaroo crossings, speed bumps and park-and-play areas.

“The track will even include an imaginative play charging station to ‘top up’ their bike or scooter.

“The bike skills track will be free to use and is designed for both a quick visit or for an affordable family day out with a barbecue and small patio area with a drink fountain.

“Of course, families can also make use of the nearby oval facilities, the Edge Skatepark, and the adjacent award-winning Kwinana Adventure Park which has public toilets,” she said
