Throughout June and July, locals in the City of Rockingham are being encouraged to head along to a Coffee with a Cop event.
Residents will have the chance to enjoy a free coffee and chat with local police and staff from the City’s Community Safety and Support Services team about issues they may have in their suburb.
The City’s role in this space is to raise awareness and educate residents about the importance of community safety.
Meanwhile, WAPOL’s role is to actively enforce laws, monitor our neighbourhoods and respond to emergency situations.
The collaboration between the City and WAPOL will give both parties the chance to respond to a broad range of matters, and will also help the City plan future community awareness and engagement programs.
Events will take place at four different locations and include:
- Thursday 15 June, 10am – 12pm at Dome Waikiki, Waikiki Village Shopping Centre (corner Read Street and Gnangara Drive).
- Thursday 22 June, 10am – 12pm, Bru’s House, 19 Dampier Drive Golden Bay.
- Thursday 29 June, 10am – 12pm at Steel Tree Settlers, 7/59 Arpenteur Drive Baldivis.
- Saturday 1 July, 10am – 12pm, Daintree Street Park, Baldivis.
City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin said visitors to these sessions would gain a clear understanding of the different roles that the City and WAPOL have in respect to community safety.
“Programs like Coffee with a Cop help to create safe and connected communities, which is a key element in the City’s Community Safety and Support Services Strategy 2022 – 2027,” Mayor Hamblin said.
“The City is aware that community safety is a high priority for community members, and we are keen to hear from local residents about the issues that are directly affecting them. Your feedback will help both the City and WAPOL plan future programs and events that are focused on enhancing safety.
“We thank WAPOL for being involved in this initiative and look forward to working closely with local police officers.”
Acting Senior Sergeant Tara Brown said ‘Coffee with a Cop’ is a great initiative to engage with the community and hear directly what the concerns and issues are for local residents.
“Crime prevention is a shared responsibility. We want to hear from those affected by crime so local Police have an accurate reflection of which areas and individuals; require our attention. We want people to feel safe.”
