Police have charged a 26-year-old man after he was allegedly found hiding in the boot of a car following a pursuit in Rockingham.

Officers first sighted a black Toyota RAV4 allegedly bearing false number plates travelling along Calume Street in Hillman around 3pm on Wednesday, May 10.

They attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver allegedly sped off.

Police chased the RAV4 through the suburbs of Hillman and Rockingham before tracking it to an underground car park on Council Avenue where the man allegedly abandoned the vehicle.

He then allegedly got into another vehicle and left the area undetected.

"Prior to transitioning into the second vehicle, the man concealed a package in the area; later identified as a sawn-off shotgun," a WA Police spokesperson said.

With the help of police airwing and acting on information, officers tracked the man to an address in Hillman.

Around 3.45pm, they stopped a white Holden Commodore leaving the property and found the man hiding in the boot.

He was allegedly dressed in a woman's shirt and a blonde wig was also found in the boot of the car.

The 26-year-old Golden Bay man has been charged with reckless driving, failing to stop, no authority to drive and possessing a firearm.

He will appear in the Rockingham Magistrates Court on May 19.

A 32-year-old Karnup woman has also been charged in relation to the pursuit.

She will appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on May 18 on the charges of no authority to drive, possessing drug paraphernalia and breach of bail.
