The new Lakelands Train Station is officially open.

A community celebration marked the occasion on Sunday along with free travel across the entire Transperth network.

The station offers an entry building adorned with Aboriginal artwork, a pedestrian overpass, two platforms, kiss-and-ride facilities, a bus interchange, a 400-bay car park, and secure cycle storage facilities.

The first weekday city-bound service will leave Mandurah Station at 4.47am on Monday, arriving at Lakelands Station at 4.51am.

The new station is set to ease pressure on Mandurah and Warnbro stations as well as being more convenient for nearby locals.

“This is another important addition to the infrastructure and facilities we have already delivered. Lakelands station will benefit the communities of Lakelands and Madora Bay by decreasing their travel times and improving the bus services in the area," Mandurah MLA David Templeman said.

“This, coupled with the 2-fare zone caps makes travel to Perth affordable and will benefit my community. I am proud that the Lakelands Train Station and associated bus routes are being delivered by the Labor Government as part of METRONET."

The $72 million project began construction in November 2021 and was jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Western Australian Governments under an 80:20 funding arrangement.
