A Madora Bay woman has been charged after allegedly stealing a maxi-taxi and taking it on joy ride through Perth.

The commuter bus was parked in a carpark in Kings Park around 10.40pm on Sunday.

While the driver was outside the vehicle waiting for his customer the woman allegedly got into the taxi and drove off.

A short time later police spotted the stolen taxi but the woman allegedly failed to stop.

She allegedly travelled through several suburbs including Victoria Park, Como and South Perth before the vehicle came to a stop on the Great Eastern Highway in Burswood after driving over a tyre deflation device.

The woman allegedly fled on foot but was arrested in Charles Paterson Park.

The Madora Bay woman has been charged with failing to stop, reckless driving and stealing a motor vehicle.

The 33-year-old will appear in the Perth magistrates Court today.
