A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to two years in jail after running down a police officer with his motorbike in Warnbro.

Seth Andreas Andersen was travelling at more than 30km/h over the speed limit along Holcombe Avenue on February 23, 2022 when the officer tried to flag him down.

Andersen, who was on bail for other offences, began to slow down, prompting the officer to step out onto the road, but the 37-year-old then accelerated away and moved into the opposite lane.

The senior constable also stepped into the opposite lane in an effort to stop Andersen but he continued to accelerate, hitting the officer before speeding off.

The officer suffered a broken leg and a wound to the back of his head.

Andersen handed himself into police two days after the incident after CCTV was released to the public.

The 37-year-old appeared in the WA District Court on Thursday where he was sentenced to two years behind bars.

However, he could walk free from jail this month after Judge Charlotte Wallace backdated his sentence to February last year and made him eligible for parole after serving 12 months.
