Peel Health Campus' transition from private to public sector management has been delayed by a year to 2024.

Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson made the announcement in State Parliament on Tuesday, citing challenges with the Information and Communication Technology infrastructure at the hospital.

"The additional 12 months will give us time to address ICT infrastructure challenges that have been identified at Peel health Campus," Ms Sanderson said.

"We need to ensure Peel Health Campus' IT systems are compatible with the advanced systems used by the WA health system.

“The transition project is complex and as a government we are committed to ensuring it goes smoothly for patients and staff."

In 2020, the McGowan Government announced the Mandurah hospital will be brought back into public hands from August 2023.

It is currently privately managed by Ramsay Health Care.

Ms Sanderson has assured staff that they will be able to retain their leave entitlements during the transition.

“In the case of this transfer, recognition of previously accrued personal leave has been approved for employees who transition from Ramsay Health Care to South Metropolitan Health Service.

“In September 2022, the McGowan Government announced that Ramsay Health Care staff will have the opportunity to transition to the public sector... and retain their prior service, long service and paid parental leave entitlements.

“This significant decision will provide staff previously employed by Ramsay with comfort and assurances they have raised as an important factor in making the decision to transition to the public sector.”
