A small COVID-19 outbreak at Peel Health Campus forced staff to shutdown one of its wards on Friday.

The West Australian reports, the general ward was temporarily closed after four patients and six staff contracted the virus.

A Ramsay Health spokeswoman said the closure was a "precaution to ensure the ongoing safety of patients and staff".

“The affected patients are being treated on a ward intended for COVID-19 and which is closed to new admissions and visitors,” she said.

“Affected staff are isolating at home for seven days.”

It comes as WA's COVID numbers nearly doubled in just over a month with 8029 cases recorded in the past week.
