Four teenagers have been rescued from Bluff Knoll after becoming stranded on the popular Great Southern mountain peak.

The young men, aged between 18 and 19, hiked up the mountain on Saturday but due to weather conditions they struggled to get back down.

Lack of daylight and bad weather made it too unsafe to rescue the hikers on Saturday night, but the group told police they had enough water, food and warm clothing to see them through until Sunday.

Due to rain, strong winds and snow it was still not safe for an air rescue to be carried out on Sunday morning.

Luckily, conditions eased enough in the afternoon so the RAC Rescue helicopter could reach the men and bring them back to the command point in the carpark where they were assessed by paramedics.

None of them were seriously injured.

It's understood three of the men are from Rockingham and the fourth is from Bunbury.
