People living in parts of Perth and the South West are being warned to get ready now for damaging winds.

Locations which may be affected include Armadale, Harvey, Kalamunda and Midland.

"A surface trough extends off the coast to the north of Perth, which when combined with a large high pressure system to the south will see a vigorous and gusty easterly airstream develop over southwestern parts of the state," a  Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson said.

Strong winds averaging 50km/h to 60km/h with damaging wind gusts of up to 90km/h are likely to develop on Monday night.

Winds are expected to ease by mid-morning on Tuesday.

WHAT TO DO:
•    Store or weigh down loose objects around your home like outdoor furniture that could be picked up and thrown by strong winds, causing damage or injury
•    Ensure your emergency kit is complete including a battery operated radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit
•    Ensure pets and animals are in a safe area
•    Move vehicles under cover
•    Boat owners should securely moor their boats
•    Campers should find safe shelter away from trees, powerlines, storm water drains and streams
