She and another woman got out of the Commodore before the 26-year-old was hit by a red Mitsubishi Outlander travelling north near Mandjoogoordap Drive.

The woman suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.

The driver of the Outlander was not injured.

Part of the freeway was closed northbound for around five hours overnight.

It reopened just after 4am on Friday.
